The Journeyman Electrician maintains, repairs and installs electrical systems and provides operations support related to the installation and engineering of various electrical power equipment and fuel systems for the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO College) in Chickasaw, OK. This position could require up to 80% travel in the future.


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, or blueprints.

Assists in the enhancement and/or maintenance of existing power systems at various facilities.

Performs installations as well as locates, diagnoses and resolves issues related to various electrical systems, such as engine generators (EG), Uninterruptible Power Supply(s) (UPS), Static Transfer Switches, electrical distribution equipment, and associated power system support equipment.

Assists with the demolition and disposal of current power system equipment (i.e., EG, UPS, and electrical distribution equipment, etc.).

Installs ¾” and up electrical conduit such as steel rigid metal conduit and Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT).

Examines and provides maintenance services for existing powers systems.

Uses a variety of electrician hand tools as well as measuring and testing instruments.

Uses technical manuals, government orders, NEC Code and blueprints to ensure accuracy and completion of work.

Coordinates work with Project Manager, Team Lead and government personnel during projects.

Helps to develop and maintain the overall production schedule for project deliverables.

Ensures all safety requirements are met per OSHA standards.

Coordinates work assignments with the installation and scheduling requirements for various power systems.

Coordinates and assists Team Lead with power cutovers.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. 

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers.  Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources.  Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.


High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and a minimum of four (4) years electrician experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience. Completion of a recognized and approved formal electrician apprenticeship program and Journeyman Electrician License required.


Valid State-specific Journeyman Electrician License required


Working knowledge of electrical theory, principles, circuitry and electrical codes

Operational knowledge and understanding of, with ability to read, government technical manuals, technical orders, and modification work orders and blueprints

In depth knowledge of basic electronics principles in the routine and repetitive repair, disassembly, modification, assembly, testing, installation and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and accessories

In depth knowledge of electrical components, wire materials, power supplies and repair techniques

Working knowledge of cutting, threading, bending and installation of various conduits in many different environments

Understanding of power generators, ATS, UPS, switch gear and power panels wiring

Technical proficiency with troubleshooting / problem-solving skills

Excellent time management skills with ability to receive instructions and accurately complete assignments in a timely manner

Ability to work well with others in various settings (i.e., peers, customers, supervisors, etc.)

Ability to effectively use tools and equipment associated with electrical work (e.g., hand and automatic wire strippers, soldering equipment, wire cutters, heat guns, electric and pneumatic power tools, machinery, etc.)

Ability to follow technical orders, manufacturer’s specifications and standard trade methods

Ability to implement and follow all safety and emergency procedures

Ability to work as a team member on non-electrical projects, as assigned

Ability to work effectively, both individually and in a team environment

This position could require the ability to travel up to 80% of the time in the future.


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.                                         


Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking

Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing

Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations

Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching

Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 75 pounds

Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases

The physical ability to stand and or walk frequently. Frequently climbs on a ladder or scaffolding to heights in excess of 10’. Bend/stoop, push/pull and work above the shoulder frequently. Occasionally balance, kneel, crouch, and squat. Uses both hands for frequent grasping and fine manipulation and occasional fingering. Frequently carries up to 25 pounds of weight distances of up to 50 feet at a time, occasionally up to and including 50 pounds of weight distances of 25’ and rarely up to 50 pounds distances of 5’. Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds of weight from the floor to the waist. This weight will be constituted by the following items, but not limited to them: tools, toolboxes and tool bags, ladders, motors, supplies and equipment.  Weights in excess of 50 pounds may need to be lifted between the floor and waist on rare occasions and may consist of the following items but not be limited to them: tools, toolboxes and tool bags, ladders, motors, supplies and equipment.  Frequently operates small hand and power tools. Works at heights for extended periods of time. Wears required personal protective equipment such as steel-toed shoes, work gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, dust masks, and safety belts on a continuous basis. Moderate to high risk of electrical shock.  Minimum exposure to vibration, moving and mechanical parts. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions.
