The Electrician - Level III (Aircraft) performs a variety of electrical trade functions in support of the Rapid Development Integration Facility (RDIF) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. While typical duties involve the installation, maintenance or repair of equipment on various aircraft, the primary focus of work is on the USAF fixed wing military airframes.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS  

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required customer clearance for access to systems, facilities, equipment and property. 

  • FAA-specific Certification / License preferred but not required

  • Working knowledge of electrical theory, principles, and circuitry

  • Working knowledge of and ability to utilize military technical manuals, technical orders, modification work orders and blueprints

  • In depth knowledge of basic electronics principles in the routine and repetitive repair, disassembly, modification, assembly, testing, installation, and maintenance of aircraft electrical systems, equipment, and accessories

  • In depth knowledge of electrical components, wire materials, power supplies and repair techniques

  • Working knowledge of various types and sizes of wires, cables, and connectors and their application in numerous aircraft electrical systems

  • Technical proficiency with exceptional troubleshooting / problem-solving skills

  • Excellent time-management skills with ability to receive instructions and accurately complete assignments in a timely manner

  • Ability to work well with others (i.e., peers, customers, supervisors, etc.) in a high volume facility

  • Ability to use effectively tools and equipment associated with an electrical shop (i.e., hand and automatic wire strippers, soldering equipment, wire cutters, heat guns, electric and pneumatic power tools, etc.)

  • Ability to follow technical orders, manufacturer’s specifications and standard trade methods

  • Ability to create Bill of Materials (BOM) and assist with the internal procurement system

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic malfunctions in wiring and associated components

  • Ability to implement and follow all safety and emergency procedures

  • Ability to work effectively, both individually and in a team environment

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Installs or repairs a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment.

  • Performs electrical system and component repairs to a variety of aircraft. 

  • Works from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications.

  • Generate and maintain BOMs and assist with the purchasing process

  • Locates and diagnoses trouble in the electrical system or equipment.

  • Works with standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment.

  • Uses a variety of electrician's hand tools, measuring and testing instruments.

  • Uses technical manuals, technical orders, modification work orders and blue prints to ensure accuracy and completion.

  • Installs prototype equipment on aircraft and makes modifications to the existing electrical systems and sub systems.

  • Coordinates with project engineer personnel throughout the project, and provides technical assistance to project engineers, contractors and factory representatives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of five (5) years' aircraft electrician experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience. Completion of a recognized and approved formal electrician apprenticeship program required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing shop environment. Regularly required to stand, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms to handle objects and operate tools, computer, and/or controls. Required to speak and hear. Regularly required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel or crouch. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Exposed to general shop noises with machinery, welders, etc.
