Technical Logistics SME

The Technical Logistics Subject Matter Expert (SME) will leverage their in-depth knowledge and expertise in logistics operations, supply chain management, and logistics technology to support and optimize the customers logistics processes. The SME will serve as a key resource in developing and implementing logistics strategies and solutions.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required customer clearance for access to systems, facilities, equipment and property.

  • Must possess appropriate level of certifications for this position as required by the contract. 

  • Proven ability to analyze complex data, develop actionable insights, and design process improvements that drive operational efficiencies and enhance mission effectiveness. 

  • In-depth knowledge of USAF logistics, maintenance, and sustainment processes, with a deep understanding of system interdependencies and cross-functional coordination. 

  • Strong experience in process design, improvement, and optimization within a military or defense logistics environment. 

  • Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership, technical teams, contractors, and external partners. 

  • Exceptional analytical skills with a proven ability to solve complex problems and provide data-driven recommendations. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of presenting findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences. 

  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic and fast-paced environment while also leading teams to achieve program goals. 

  • Prior experience working with or within the Air Force Sustainment Center or other Department of Defense (DoD) entities is strongly preferred. 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides expert advice and insights on logistics operations, including distribution, transportation, inventory management, and supply chain optimization.

  • Participates in logistics projects and initiatives, offering technical expertise to ensure successful project outcomes.

  • Analyzes logistics performance data to identify areas for improvement, driving efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

  • Assesses and recommends logistics technology solutions and innovations to enhance operational capabilities.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop and refine logistics processes and best practices.

  • Conducts training sessions for internal teams on logistics processes, tools, and best practices as needed.

  • Contributes to the development of long-term logistics strategies aligned with organizational goals.

  • Ensures logistics operations comply with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.

  • Maintains comprehensive documentation of logistics processes, guidelines, and software solutions for reference and training purposes.

  • May act as a lead or mentor to team members.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and a minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Regularly required to sit. Regularly required use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms to handle objects and operate tools, computer, and/or controls. Required to speak and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
