The Information Technology Internship is designed to provide well rounded exposure to IT functions while fulfilling work assignments in a support capacity. This Chickasaw Nation Industries (CNI) IT Cybersecurity Intern position supports various aspects of business projects with emphasis placed on cybersecurity while also assisting with other departmental duties, as assigned.


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.

Responsible for the integration of CNI Core Competencies into daily functions, including: commitment to integrity, knowledge / quality of work, supporting financial goals of the company, initiative / motivation, cooperation / relationships, problem analysis / discretion, accomplishing goals through organization, positive oral / written communication skills, leadership abilities, commitment to Affirmative Action, reliability / dependability, flexibility and ownership / accountability of actions taken.

Effectively communicates and translates highly technical information in a professional manner at all levels, including executives.

Supports the technical execution of Information Security programs such as Incident Response and Event Monitoring.

Researches and prepares periodic and ad-hoc reports of Information Security program execution.

Develops and maintains documentation for supported processes and procedures.

Performs ongoing research of Information Security related topics.

Performs a variety of assigned tasks under supervisory guidance.

Operates formalized Information Security programs and processes such as Vulnerability Management, Third Party Assessments, System Hardening and Security Requests Assists with planning and executing IT and business projects. 

Performs business analysis, project management and administrative assignments.

Conducts information gathering sessions. Takes detailed notes, analyzes data, creates flowcharts / documentation, and creates final reports in various formats.

Assists in the design, configuration, testing, training, deployment and support of strategic projects within the cybersecurity realm of responsibilities.

Will participate in projects and meetings with IT leaders on cybersecurity matters.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. 

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.


Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a relevant college degree program at the time the internship will be served - either at the graduate or upper undergraduate level. Enrollment in a Computer Science or Information Technology degree program is preferred. Background check may be conducted. Must have an acceptable GPA.

Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking including knowledge of protocols, ports, and services

Forensic analysis experience or administrator level knowledge of Windows, Mac, and Linux systems.

IT Network or Security Operation Center experience. Experience in computer network defense and in-depth technical knowledge/mastery with intrusion detection systems. Experience monitoring network traffic (i.e. netflow and PCAP) and IDS/IPS data. Experience with log analysis, event correlation and incident management procedures and systems. Experience with Windows Client and Server OS

Experience with Redhat and CentOS Linux platforms.



Basic understanding of Information Security roles and responsibilities

Excellent computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Windows and Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

Excellent written and verbal communications skills with knowledge and ability to utilize appropriate grammatical skills

Must have aptitude for learning, be self-directed, and be capable of working in a fast-paced operations environment

Ability to create professional reports, flowcharts and documentation utilizing various formats

Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of management and coworkers, as well as a wide range of people having diverse backgrounds

Ability to employ a customer service approach and to present technical information with clarity to non-technical users

Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

Ability to be dependable and to meet schedules / timelines

Ability to prioritize projects and services for minimum user interruption and downtime

Well organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated

Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Financial background helpful.


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
