The Cylance MDAV Engineer is responsible for planning and executing the enterprise migration from Cylance to migration to Microsoft Defender Antivirus (MDAV), deployment of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDE) to meet Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) requirements, and broader adoption of Microsoft Intune as the central platform for endpoint configuration and compliance. The Cylance MDAV Engineer efforts will assist in providing NIH ensuring with continuity of protection, eliminating third-party software costs, and increasing visibility into enterprise endpoint security.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS  

  • The ability to obtain, maintain and access classified information at the Public Trust level. 

  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate or similar certification preferred.

  • Minimum of six (6) years experience supporting endpoint and enterprise security management.

  • Minimum of two (2) years proven experience supporting Cylance and Microsoft Defender for Antivirus.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Migrates endpoint antivirus protection from Cylance to Microsoft Defender for Antivirus (MDAV) across the enterprise.

  • Aligns antivirus configurations with NIH cybersecurity standards and Zero Trust policies.

  • Supports the creation of detailed migration plans that minimize operational disruption while enhancing endpoint protection and EDR capabilities.

  • Documents existing Cylance deployments and configuration settings.

  • Identifies required MDAV configuration baselines and policy equivalents.

  • Evaluates system readiness (OS version, patch level) for MDAV compatibility.

  • Coordinates with IT, cybersecurity, and endpoint owners across the enterprise.

  • Defines roles, schedule migration windows, and communicate timelines.

  • Conducts pilot deployment to validate MDAV performance and policy effectiveness.

  • Gathers feedback, optimize configuration, and finalize deployment strategy.

  • Develops safe and automated uninstall scripts.

  • Executes a phased removal strategy to monitor errors and ensure endpoint integrity.

  • Confirms endpoint protection status and monitor telemetry via Microsoft 365 Defender portal.

  • Tunes configurations based on observed system performance and threat detection analytics.

  • Updates SOPs, architectural diagrams, and internal documentation.

  • Trains helpdesk teams and provide FAQs for user support.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Programming, or related field from an accredited educational institution. Minimum of six (6) years experience supporting endpoint and enterprise security management. Minimum of two (2) years proven experience supporting Cylance and Microsoft Defender for Antivirus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment. Regularly required to sit. Regularly required use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms to handle objects and operate tools, computer, and/or controls. Required to speak and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Seldom lifting of office supplies weighing up to 20 pounds, as necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.

The estimated pay range for this role is $118K to $145K, with the final offer contingent on location, skillset, and experience.
