Protocol Specialist - DOD Secret

The Protocol Specialist ensures adherence to military customs, courtesies, and protocols during official events, ceremonies, and functions. This role requires a strong understanding of military traditions and regulations to maintain professionalism. Ideal candidates will have experience supporting the Department of Defense or Military General Officers, preferably with the Defense Health Agency. Must possess and maintain a current Secret security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship. The position is onsite four days a week in Falls Church, VA, with one remote day and occasional travel (up to 25%).

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess and maintain a current Secret security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field and five to eight (5-8) years of relevant professional experience required.

  • Proven Experience supporting the Department of Defense/Military General Officer in the same or similar capacity preferred. 

  • Experience with Defense Health Agency preferred. 

  • Must be able to Travel 25% 

  • ​Experience in military protocol, event planning, or related field preferred.

  • Strong understanding of military customs, courtesies, and regulations required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Defense Travel System.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develops, implements, and oversees protocols for military ceremonies, events, and visits.

  • Advises military personnel and leadership on proper etiquette, customs, and protocols.

  • Coordinates logistics for official functions, including venue selection, seating arrangements, and guest lists.

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for protocol-related inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.

  • Prepares and distributes invitations, programs, and briefing materials for events.

  • Conducts training sessions on military protocol for personnel at various levels.

  • Ensures compliance with security and safety regulations during events.

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of military hierarchy and protocol to facilitate dignitary visits and ceremonies.

  • Collaborates with other departments and agencies to ensure comprehensive planning and execution of events

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field and five to eight (5-8) years of relevant professional experience required.

Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Seldom lifting of office supplies weighing up to 20 pounds, as necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
