The Data Operator I and II support the Department of the Interior’s (DOI) Office of Special Trustee for American Indians (OST). The OST is in the process of converting historical documents stored at the American Indian Records Repository (AIRR) to electronic records. The collection of documents contains materials related to Indian Trust, education and other topics received from across the United States reaching back into the 18th Century. The Data Operator I and II prepare documents for archival at the AIRR.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Prepares documents for scanning.

 

Enters data into appropriate reporting and recordkeeping systems.

 

Scans and reassembles documents after scanning.

 

Completes assignments with a high degree of accuracy.

 

Performs Quality Checks of completed work, and identifies and tracks any deficiencies noted. 

 

Ensures all identified deficiencies are promptly corrected. 

 

Must be able to prepare basic activity and progress reports using MS Excel sorting and filtering tools.

 

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.

 

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

 

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability. 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and minimum years’ relevant experience as specified below or equivalent combination of education / experience.

 

Data Operator II: Required diploma + four (4) years’ of experience

Data Operator I:  Required diploma + two (2) years’ of experience

 

CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION

Driver’s License

 

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-one-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

May be required to lift, push or pull 50 pounds or more using cart or hand truck. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May work near moving or mechanical parts. May have exposure to chemicals, fumes, warehouse environment or adverse weather conditions. May be required to use safety and personal protective equipment.
