Remote Pilot Operator
The Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Academy located at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) operates a combination of the Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) / keyboard / Voice Communication System (VCS) during medium and high-fidelity training exercises to simulate the actions and communication of pilots and remote Air Traffic Control (ATC) facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Receives voice commands from students, inputs proper entries into the automated system to simulate pilot actions, translates displayed information into appropriate ATC terminology, and responds to the student via the VCS utilizing proper phraseology.
Operates computer equipment to provide a simulated air traffic environment reflecting typical pilot responses to trainee directions.
Provides simulated communications to the trainee on a variety of coordination activities with adjacent sector during the course of a lab problem.
Provides scripted communications to the students, follows prompts to simulate inter/intra coordination related to training problem.
May distribute flight strips to proper training sectors, when necessary, on a time critical basis.
Transcribes required information on remote flight progress strips when necessary.
Monitors student to voice recognition software interaction for errors, makes correcting keyboard entries when required.
Follows scenario script to ensure timely scenario inputs occur.
Communicates effectively with FAA personnel at all levels to insure the training delivered at the local level is responsive to local needs, is comprehensive and of consistent high quality.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize output. Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and Human Resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of one (1) year experience in a comparable position. Must demonstrate a minimum keyboard speed of forty (40) wpm with ninety (90) percent accuracy. Experience working in a related field as part of a multidisciplinary team preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
FAA certification in accordance with the applicable Academy (AMA) Work Instructions (AMAWI-50033 or AMAWI-50034)

Basic knowledge and understanding of computer technology and related tools (i.e., tablets, notebooks, applications, video simulations, etc.)
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, etc.)
Excellent verbal and written communications skills with ability to read and interpret materials such as diagrams and manuals
