DIRECTOR OF NURSING
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for leading, planning, organizing, directing, analyzing and evaluating nursing services, as well as supervising members of the nursing team in order to provide effective nursing services that meet practice and quality standards in support of Hanford Occupational Medical Services.
The Hanford Site, located in southeast Washington State, was established as a plutonium production complex for the Manhattan Project. The mission is to provide an Occupational Medical Services Program of superior quality in support of on-going activities at the Hanford Site and providing services to over 8,000 employees working on the cleanup site.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Supervises nursing staff. Insures the nursing staff receives sufficient in-service education, training and development and maintains current certifications.
Acts as a liaison between the nursing staff and the physicians or health-care facility managers.
Ensures nursing staff is providing quality and appropriate patient care that meets or exceeds company and regulatory standards.
Attends meetings with physicians and staff members to plan operational strategies.
Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for the facility.
Monitors monthly performance of nursing services in relation to budget and intervenes as needed.
Schedules and performs patient rounds to monitor and evaluate the quality of nursing care.
Maintains administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for the proper charting and documentation of care, medications and treatments.
Ensures employee performance meets or exceeds expectations and conducts periodic performance appraisals.
Develops and implements a written staffing plan and nursing schedule.
Ensures all required records are maintained and submitted in an accurate and timely manner.
Evaluates market studies and develops clinical programs to meet the needs of the facility.
Maintains regular and ongoing communication with the Medical Director to ensure programs and care services meet the needs of patients.
Completes required forms and documents in accordance with company policy and state and/or federal regulations.
Manages clinical aspects of state or federal government survey processes.
Develops, implements and administers nursing policies and procedures to insure staff has appropriate guidelines that meet the various regulatory requirements.
Ensures admissions and transfers are appropriate considering the patients level of acuity, the facilities capacity and whether the patient has proper consent.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five (5) years nursing supervisory experience in an occupational health setting, or equivalent combination of education / experience. A Master’s of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) or a relevant field (e.g. MBA or M.S. - Business, Masters of Public Health (MPH)) preferred.
CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION
Successful completion of the American Heart Association (AHA) in Basic Life Support (BLS) and
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
BLS and ACLS certification must be current at all times

Comprehensive knowledge of the range of administrative laws, policies, regulations, and precedents applicable to the administration of public health clinics, programs and medical / health records information
Knowledge of public health scientific principles and policies related to data management and data integrity
Knowledge with Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) policies for dealing with Personal Health Information and personally identifiable information
Excellent verbal and written communications skills with ability to effectively present information before local, state or federal stakeholders and agencies
Skilled in facilitating teamwork and coordinating efforts for the successful achievement of goals
Excellent supervisory and management skills with ability to resolve conflicts, grievances, confrontations or disagreements in a constructive manner
Skilled proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel Outlook, Project, etc.)

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
